Stop by today's Chalk Talk as Fluid-Screen elaborates on how they combine microelectronics, microfluidics, and microbiology to rapidly detect as little as one bacterium in 100 mL of water.  Their device detects E. coli in only 30 minutes as opposed to days for standard culture techniques. Fluid-Screen expects the technology to appeal to recreation, agriculture, manufacturing, and any industry mandated to test water for bacterial contamination. Currently, Fluid-Screen has handmade prototypes with separate modules for bacterial concentration and detection. Next steps are to test the technology with real file samples, manufacture self-contained devices, and expand the detection to more types of bacteria and samples!
