Colorfully engaging, fantastically themed worlds collide in this exhibit featuring 3 artists with 3 differing stories. A show stopper of an exhibit transporting you into another world which will sure to provoke a response. It might not be your cup of tea, but then again you might just want to step into the artwork and enjoy the party!

Asia Kepka

Horace and Agnes a Love Story was inspired by 2 masks, a horse and a squirrel, that for whatever reason, reminded Asia of a middle aged couple. She envisioned them embarking on a mid-century romance. She saw a simpler time—a snap shot of a memory. As Asia continued to shoot, themes started to develop. Coming out of a turbulent time she had just concluded a more cerebral, darker body of work but there was brightness in this couple. There was color. There was comfort in the nostalgia. There was hope. This project became an assemblage of feelings from the loss of passed loved ones, their possessions and their stories. The masks became a vehicle for others to participate literally and figuratively. A litany of friends and some strangers joined the team to pose as characters and those participating as viewers could see themselves or their parents or their grandparents in these roles because the masks dismissed common features and biases.

The shots are mostly self-portraits. Each image was shot on location or in a set designed in her house. Props are carefully curated and usually meaningful to the character, the story or the artist. One of her images shows a giant vintage umbrella. This was from Asia's American family that brought her to the US. During shooting, a woman stopped to thank her for making her day. She grew up with that umbrella! There are stories to most of the photos. They may mention people that have passed or a memorable scenario from childhood. It’s silly what you remember and what can hold meaning in each individual’s life. The search for connection is the viewer’s choice. I’ve been there, I’ve seen this, I’ve lost that. There is something for everyone. The devil is in the details and the hope springs eternal.

Lisa Gilman

Lisa Gilman grew up in South Florida swimming in oceans and pools, hoping to become a mermaid. Her quest turned into a great love of enchanted forests, super heroes, and outer space. She is an 80’s remix of Barbie, Dr. Who, and “The Never Ending Story” with a “brat pack” movie twist! Many years ago her landlord gifted her a black light which she plugged in at home, just for fun, in doing so discovered that her artwork was phosphorescent! That opened up a whole new world for Lisa. She has since had many personal black light dance parties, thinking up her next creations. Lisa's art is glittery and multi-dimensional in daylight and something wonderfully otherworldly in the dark with black light!

Caleb Cole

Born in Indianapolis, Caleb Cole is a former altar server, scout, and 4-H Grand Champion in Gift Wrapping. His mother instilled in him a love of garage sales and thrift stores, where he developed a fascination with the junk that people leave behind. Cole is a 2015 Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellow, 2013 Hearst 8x10 Biennial Winner, 3-time Magenta Foundation Flash Forward Winner, 2011 St. Botolph Club Foundation Emerging Artist Award winner, 2011 Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship Finalist, 2009 Artadia Award winner, and a 2009 Photolucida Critical Mass finalist. He exhibits regularly at a variety of national venues and has held solo shows in Boston, New York, Chicago, and St. Louis, among others. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Newport Art Museum, Brown University Art Museum and Leslie Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art. He is represented by Gallery Kayafas, Boston.
