We are thrilled to have recently launched Phase III of the Life Sciences in Full Color campaign, celebrating diversity, innovation, and the individuals driving change in the life sciences. This campaign inspires us to reimagine what it means to be part of the life sciences and furthers our mission to amplify voices and journeys that make the industry more inclusive, innovative, and impactful.

More than a campaign, Life Sciences in Full Color is a movement—a platform to spotlight the people behind the breakthroughs. Each story highlights unique experiences, challenges, and achievements from scientists to entrepreneurs.

As part of this phase, we are honored to highlight two incredible Career Forge alums and scientists, Diana Hernandez and Marissa Lemus, whose journeys exemplify the transformative power of resilience, passion, and science.

Diana Hernandez, a Biomedical Researcher, works at the forefront of gene therapy innovation while staying deeply connected to her cultural roots. Her commitment to preserving her Indigenous heritage and revitalizing her mother’s native language showcases the profound impact of science and culture.

“The willingness to keep learning is key to growth in all aspects of life,” Diana shares. “I am dedicated to preserving my indigenous heritage and working to revitalize my mother’s native language. As a research associate in the laboratory, I explore innovative gene therapy approaches aimed at improving lives.”

Diana’s journey reminds us how personal passion and professional purpose can drive meaningful change in communities and the life sciences.

Marissa Lemus’ journey from Guatemala to Boston is of extraordinary resilience and determination. For ten years, Marissa juggled working in retail, raising her son, and pursuing her education. Through perseverance, she earned her associate degree at Bunker Hill Community College and bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Northeastern University. Today, she thrives in a rewarding career in biotechnology.

“I have built my life around determination and a passion for discovery,” Marissa reflects. “My journey, built on a foundation of resilience and determination, has led me to a rewarding career in biotechnology.”

Her story is a testament to the power of education, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to one’s dreams.

The Life Sciences in Full Color campaign bridges the gap between innovation and the community. On our site, local STEM programming and resources provide opportunities for people of all ages to explore career pathways and jumpstart their journeys in the life sciences.

We are also excited to share that the campaign extended beyond digital spaces and into the community. Life Sciences in Full Color ads were found in key neighborhoods across Boston, including:

  • Roxbury (Ruggles)
  • Dorchester (JFK/UMass)
  • East Boston (Maverick & Airport)

Phase III was made possible thanks to the City of Boston's groundbreaking investment in 2023 through Mayor Michelle Wu’s $4 million workforce initiative. This funding, awarded to The American City Coalition and LabCentral Ignite, emphasizes a shared commitment to increasing public awareness of the life sciences industry and its career opportunities.

We invite you to explore the stories of Diana, Marissa, and others as we continue to celebrate the diversity behind innovation in the life sciences. Together, we can build a more inclusive, innovative, and impactful future that creates opportunities for all.
