The goal of the LabCentral Learning Lab is to work with academic and community partners to create a new kind of educational experience in the heart of innovation in Kendall Square. This lab will serve as a community hub, forging lasting connections, and inspiring tomorrow’s innovators. At scale, programming will advance thousands of students and teachers into the future of science. The Learning Lab comprises 1,270 square feet of laboratory and adjoining classroom space.
MASSBIOED
Through the BioTeach Program, MassBioEd strives to engage and excite teachers, inspire and propel students, and illuminate pathways from the classroom to life science careers.
BioTeach recognizes that educators are one of our greatest resources and supports them by providing the training, supplies and equipment needed to design and execute hands-on, innovative lessons. At LabCentral’s Learning Lab, teachers experience authentic life science labs and activities and prepare to implement them in their classrooms. Training is offered through free one-day or multi-day workshops that qualify for Professional Development Points or graduate credit. In addition, post-workshop mentoring is available to newly trained teachers to help with the execution of lab activities.
Career exploration and awareness activities introduce students from backgrounds underrepresented in the industry to a wide variety of family-sustaining careers. Students can meet life sciences professionals through LabCentral site visits, classroom visits, and career panels, as well as field trips to partner companies and colleges. Students can also role-play bioscience professionals as they tackle problem-based learning activities on an innovative web-based learning platform.
